The Cavapoo, also known as the Cavoodle or Cavadoodle, combines the energetic and intelligent personality of the Poodle with the friendly, even tempered characteristics of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Cavapoos are considered a mixed breed, and they are often reffered to as a designer dog. They are currently one of the most popular dog breeds in the world.
Cavapoos generally are 9 to 14 inches tall and weigh around 12 to 21 pounds. While this is a general outline for how big or small they can get, some Cavapoos are as small as 9 pounds and others can be as big as 25 pounds. The size of the Cavapoo largely depends on the Poodle parent. There are three size varieties for Poodles: toy, miniature, and standard. Toy Poodles stand under 10 inches tall, miniatures stand from 10 to 15 inches, and standard Poodles are 15 inches or taller. While the standard Poodle is indeed a distinct Poodle varitey, Cavapoos are only bred from toy or miniature Poodles.
Due to these gorgeous family pets being a designer dog it's important to note which generation your puppy will be. Mainly because this will give you a little more insight on which breed your puppy will be more likely to inhert more traits from. The F1 Cavapoo is when a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle are crossed. An F1b Cavapoo is produced when a Cavapoo is bred to either a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel or Poodle. Breeders create an F1b generation when they want more of one breed to be present than the other.
Cavapoos can be found in an assortment of colors. You can find cream, fawn, gold, chestnut, red, black, brown, and white Cavapoos. Their coats are usually soft and curly. Some are solid colors while others have two or even three different colors.Cavapoos are less prone to shedding due to their poodle genes. When a dog sheds the dander is released in the air which is what causes the allergic reaction. Due to Cavapoos low tendency to shed they are often marketed as being hypoallergenic.
Not only are Cavapoos great companions for those who have allergies, they are even able to easily adapt to their owners lifestyle, whether that be extremely active or very laid back. Due to their affectionate and loving personalities, some Cavapoos don't do well when left alone for long periods of time. With mixed breeds you can get a wide variety of personality traits which makes it even more important to make sure you are getting your puppy from a quality breeder. It is also important to take into consideration the traits and behaviors of the mother and father.
Cavapoos are a relatively new breed. They were first bred as a designer dog in Austrailia around the early 1990's. The Cavalier King Charles breed diverged from the origional King Charles Spaniel in the 1920's and quickly gained popularity after the war. They were often family and house dogs. Poodles on the other hand, were hard working, highly intelligent dogs that were first bred in the late 1800's. If you are looking for a well rounded, friendly, and loving companion I highly reccomend the Cavapoo.
